Water, Water, Everywhere!
April 22 - We spent our first night in the Netherlands at a lovely French-owned hotel, The Sofitel Amsterdam, and did a bit of walking and sightseeing.
April 23 - Before joining our river boat cruise, I wandered about the riverfront and encountered some swans, goats, boats and scenery.
The Kingdom of the Netherlands was formed in 1815. Fifteen years later, in 1830, Belgium seceded and formed a separate kingdom. The Netherlands remained neutral in World War I, but suffered invasion and occupation by Germany in World War II. The Netherlands was a founding member of NATO and the EEC (now the EU).
