April 21 - We departed on KLM for an overnight flight to Holland (Netherlands).

April 22 - We spent the first night at a lovely French-owned hotel, The Sofitel Amsterdam, and did a bit of walking and sightseeing.

April 23 - We joined the river boat MS Amadagio for its 4:00 pm Embarkation Welcome Cocktails and Dinner. Afterwards in the ship's lounge were were entertained by local folk dancers.

April 24 - We saw Amsterdam, Volendam, Edam and Enkhuizen. We did a sightseeing tour by canal boat on the Ijsselmeer [formerly Zuiderzee until the Dutch began the transformation in 1932 - see earthshots] and a walking tour. At Edam, we visited a traditional cheese factory and tasted the wares.

April 25 - We toured Holland's Arnhem Airborne Museum and World War II cemetery. In the afternoon we cruised to Belgium and in the evening there was the Captain’s Gala Dinner on board.

April 26 - We toured Antwerp in the morning and returned on our own after lunch while most of our shipmates were bussed to Brussels. In the evening after dinner there was music entertainment.

April 27 - The MS Amadagio docked in Ghent. In the afternoon I took a bus excursion to the ancient town of Brugges.

April 28 - We cruised past Zierikzee, Dordrecht, the Delta Works and through Zeeland. We were bussed to the windmills of Kinderdijk where I climbed to the top of one. It was too windy and cold for Cliff, so I caught up to him later in the cafe sipping warm chocolate.

April 29 - Utrecht, Keukenhof, and then Amsterdam were on the agenda. We disembarked and went to Keukenhof Gardens early in the morning for a guided tour of Holland’s most spectacular display of bulb flowers. Our cruise director had planned it so that we could avoid the mid-day crowds. We met up with the river boat in Amsterdam.

April 30 - Farewell to shipmates and our cruise director, John Riley, as we disembarked and were bused to Schipol airport. A wonderful eight day adventure and, as always, it is good to be home again.
