06,04.28 Kinderdijk
April 28th: At 3 pm the riverboat docked at Dordrecht and we went by bus to Kinderdijk.

Almost half of the Netherlands lies below sea level. Since the 13th century the Dutch have been pumping water from their land using windmills and watermills. Kinderdijk is famous for the traditional windmills of Holland. Here we were able to tour inside of one of the windmills, even though the stairs were very steep. Quit a feat which Cliff did not attempt, preferring to sit it out in the cafe near the bus!

Back on the river boat, at 8 pm, we were entertained by the Men's Vocal Ensemble "CounTeBas" under the direction of Jeroen Bal.
