The tamed tapestry
A new home for the Two Leopards by 19-cent painter William Huggins.
Shot at Dalston Heights on our shoot event; I shot loads with Linda, and at first I had no intention of using her in Surreal Fashion. I produced a photo story based on her crazy antics alone (as part of my essay series 'Undoing the Illusion'). I also made a fashion story with her for Doze magazine.
But then, during a leisurely tea break at home, I perused my book of Victorian art, and wanted to give Huggins' long-admired leopards a new home. Linda in her bejewelled catsuit was naturally the one to join them...
Making Surreal Fashion is like devouring a favourite bag of sweets... it's a joyous 'high' with slightly guilty and sickly moments. So I want to work on taking it to another realm. I want to try new dynamic things with the models, and painted/drawn creatures great and small. I'm more inspired to look beyond the locations in which I shoot the models, to find source pieces of all kinds to incorporate into the images. This will take more planning and more risk-taking, even possibly frustration. I have several shoots in the coming weeks where I hope to entertain new dimensions of amazement and even horror...
