• Cruz de Malta
  • My second mate... backup :)
  • My main-mate
  • Great thermos... cheap, works great, and leakproof
  • How I love this can...
  • I've been told the yerba should reside on one side... comments, please
  • The water should be poured onto the bombilla, not onto the yerba...
But why exactly? Maybe to minimize the velocity (is that the right word? or turbulences?)
  • Njam
  • Check that out: www.club-mate.de/
  • Well, so you about do make the yerba a bit wet before pouring the water into it (over the bombilla), just to make it stick onto the ,,wall'' of the mate? All crap? Are you actually doing it?
  • So, this is how I like it...

Yes, pele.... your reasoning is correct.

Inkel -- I added detailed comments to pele's images before I saw yours. I think you may find some answers to your questions there. ;-)

crazynd, it would be better if you wait until after you shake the mate and wet the yerba, to introduce the bombilla. That way your bombilla (straw) would be less likely to get clogged. Keep on the MATE!

I think there is another reason. If water is poured onto the bombilla, then the stream of water will not let small particles of mate to close the holes in the bombilla, so you will have more comfortable mate drinking.

I like the gourd, I've never tried one of those large ones. I just made a video of how I make mine. You can check it out here.

I guess you would say, it's the American way I make mine ;-)

this is my advice, I hate swallowing the dust from the yerba, so before passing the yerba by a small mesh strainer
