NC Guard Makes Wish Come True For Youth
MORRISVILLE, N.C. The aviators of the North Carolina National Guard’s 449th Theater Aviation Brigade headquartered in Morrisville, North Carolina, welcomed their newest recruit with a tour of facility, warm greetings and a wish come true, Jan. 5, 2018.

Their recruit, William, a 12-year-old child, met his new friends thanks to the efforts of Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina and Travis Getz, Authenticity Coordinator for Ubisoft / Red Storm Entertainment, a local major game developer company.

William and his brother and Father, the guests of Red Storm and Make-A-Wish, arrived in style in a stretch limousine to the NCNG compound and waiting Soldiers. After introductions, they made their way to flight operations office in the huge NCNG aircraft hangar.

Several NCNG Soldiers showed the tools of their warrior’s craft to William. Replicas of rockets, cannon shells, aviator maps, and pilot’s flight gear are laid out for the youth to inspect. Pilots helped him try on military issue flight crew helmet and vest.

Soon it was time for the main event. A short walk later, William saw up close what he only had only seen in games, several NCNG aircraft including AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopters. William escorted by Chief Warrant Officer 4 Christopher S. Wilson, a standardization officer with the brigade.

William, under the careful eye of Wilson, climbed into the cockpit of the twin jet turbine engine, armor plated, 6-ton, attack helicopter. He settled into the seat as Wilson explained what the craft can do. William explored the controls and the maze of instruments and gages.

“We are always proud to share what we do in National Guard Aviation with the citizens we serve.” Said Wilson. “Today, we had the special privilege of sharing our story with brave young warrior Will and his family. It is a great honor that Will chose to spend part in his special day with us and hope he had a great time being an aircrew member for the day.”

Getz gave gifts to Williams and soldiers to end the day’s festivities. Hugs and handshakes for William and his family as they leave the facility with friends made and a wish fulfilled.
“Ubisoft and Red Storm Entertainment are really honored to be involved in making Will’s day awesome and pleased to partner with our friends in the NCARNG to make it happen!”

The Make-A-Wish serves a unique, and vital, role in helping strengthen and empower children battling life-threatening critical illnesses. Their staff relies on medical professionals, parents and children themselves for referrals. To receive a wish, the child must be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. Volunteers connect with the children and create an unforgettable experience.

Red Storm Entertainment, located in the heart of North Carolina’s Research Triangle, create top-quality, innovative video games. Ubisoft is a leading creator, publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment and services across all popular platforms.
