The BA in Art and Design Education is a very demanding and highly intensive course. Graduates of this course must demonstrate high achievements in their specialist discipline in art or design as well as meeting the professional requirements of entry into the teaching profession. It is a major challenge for students to bring these two strands of their education together.

It is hugely gratifying for the Faculty of Education therefore to see the class of 2009 come to such a successful conclusion of their four year degree programme. The work that these students have produced in education settings and in studio, has been of remarkable quality. The attitudes and dispositions of the students have been exemplary and it has been a pleasure and a privilege for the staff of the faculty to work with them over the past few years. I would like to acknowledge also the commitment that staff have brought to their work with the students in the course of their studies.

This catalogue of their work will give the viewer an insight into the qualities that these young people will bring to the life of the nation in the years to come. At a time of uncertain futures, the roles of education and the arts can be questioned and re-evaluated. The quality of the graduates of 2009 however can give us all confidence that the future is in good hands. We look forward with anticipation to seeing the further development of these graduates in their chosen pathways ahead in education and the visual arts.
