Rings of Magic
Two rings of Fir Clubmoss (Huperzia selago) (synonym Lycopodium selago) grow from a narrow crack. At a guess the plant has been grazed, causing two 'rings' of growth.
The clubmosses are a very ancient group of plants that pre-date the flowering plants by more than 200 million years, and was once the dominant form of vegetation, however they are now restricted to the arctic-alpine zones, in Wales occuring above 700m.
