Scientific Name: Mycteria ibis
Geographical Range: Tropical East Africa; Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Madagascar
Habitat: Aquatic habitats, including shallow lakes, mud flats, coastal lagoons and meadows.
Diet in the Wild: Feeds on crustaceans, small fish, frogs, insects and worms.
Conservation Status: Protected
It is interesting that during the breeding season these storks display feathers with a tinge of the same pink color that can be seen in their relatives, the Roseate Spoonbills. This bird is still displaying breeding colors--you can see the pink around the wing area above the black wing tips.
