Bye Bye Big Tub Lighthouse

Re-posted at 8:25am Friday due to Flickr being stupid ie: THIS

Please see the BIG TUB at FULL FRAME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well... well.... here we are again, back on the rocky shores of Tobermory on Lake Huron and the Georgian Bay.

This is Big Tub Lighthouse in Tobermory - Bruce Peninsula Ontario. The lighthouse was built in 1885 and has been operational ever since.

Big Tub Harbour grew rapidly in the late 1900's as fishing, logging, and shipping expanded throughout Ontario. Navigational aids were crucial due to storms, shoals, and fog and in this harbour shallow waters took the lives of a few boats as well.

Tobermory is said to have some of the best scuba diving in the world, it has been named "fresh water SCUBA diving capital of the world", you can dive in the incredibly clear waters of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay and explore over 20 shipwrecks, some of which sunk more than 100 years ago.

I wanted to post one more view of this beautiful lighthouse before I said goodbye.

This, just like my previous photo, is a Vertorama. I took two photos and stitched them together. One photo for the sky and one for the rocks and the foreground. It was really windy so even with this Vertorama the tree line isn't all in focus. Too bad. =(
