James Webb Space Telescope Flight Hardware Goes to Goddard
Here the flight telescope structure of the James Webb Space Telescope is unloaded from a C-5 aircraft at the U.S. Air Force's Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. It was being delivered from Northrop Grumman in southern California to NASA Goddard in Greenbelt, Maryland. The telescope structure, which is like the bones of the telescope and supports the mirrors and instruments, is inside the big white container attached to the red truck. It flew from California to Andrews on the C-5 and was then driven by the truck to NASA Goddard, where it was brought into a giant cleanroom for unpacking.
