STTARS Outside Chamber A
Here the Space Telescope Transporter for Air Road and Sea (STTARS) sits outside the massive Chamber A at NASA Johnson. Inside this transport container is the pathfinder (or test) backplane of the James Webb Space Telescope. The backplane is like the spine of the spacecraft and it supports the telescope's mirrors and instruments.
The pathfinder was previously at NASA Goddard for tests and to have the spare secondary mirror and two spare primary segments mounted on it.
The pathfinder was then transported to Texas via a C-5 aircraft. It was unloaded and driven to NASA Johnson where it will undergo cryogenic tests in Chamber A.
