Perseid Meteor Shower, 2011 (NASA, Marshall, 8/10/11)

Editor's note: The 2011 Perseid meteor shower has begun! We'll be posting some all sky camera images as we get them over the next few nights. Also, please make plans to join us for an "Up All Night" NASA Web chat on the night of Aug. 12-13. Details can be found at:

On the night of Wednesday, Aug. 10, the skies over Huntsville, Ala. were filled with images of the Perseids meteor shower. This year, the Perseids shower will peak on August 12 and, weather permitting, it will be a sight you won't want to miss. This image shows a Perseid meteor peeking through clouds in the night sky over Huntsville on Aug. 10.
