First Planetary Images
Before the 1960's, the closest anyone had come to seeing planets was through telescopes or with their naked eyes as faint objects in the night sky. As NASA's space program developed, we were able to photograph the planets of our solar system relatively close up for the first time. These images (which include Pluto, as this is a historical archive and Pluto was once considered a planet) were gathered from some of the first space missions as they flew past planets.
