For one week, every two years, Huế city on the Perfume River, becomes Vietnam’s culture and art capital, with many art and culture performance. One of my favorite is the Kite making and flying competition. Here are some images from the 2006 Festival which took place inside the Citadel. Most are of school kids participating in the fun. Everyone loves flying a kite…

 

Hue has a kite making club, founded by Master Vietnamese kite maker Nguyen Van Be. He is considered to be the most renowned Vietnamese kite maker, based among other reasons on the number of overseas festivals he has attended (nine in France alone). Huế originally rose to prominence as the capital of the Nguyễn Lords. In 1775 it was known as Phú Xuân. Prior to Hanoi, Huế was the national capital.
