Location: Desert Beach [North Shore], Salton Sea.
Looks pristine but very stinky [many dead fish washed up on shore].
Fish die-offs occur at the lake every summer because of natural biological and chemical reactions that sap oxygen from the water during July heat waves when temperatures soar near 120 degrees. In August 4, 1999, 7.6 million fish died in a day. There are an estimated 200 million tilapia in the Salton Sea.
