The Old Man and the Sea of Suffering

Newer Older

When I read The Old Man and the Sea in high school, I didn't recall anyone in my class who enjoyed this depressing tale. There's just not enough action, you know?

I actually really enjoyed reading The Old Man and The Sea, but thats probably because I wasn't forced to read it. Great MOC though.

A sad but good story. If he managed to bag this beastie, I wonder how it would affect the ending :D

If I saw the sea turned black, I'm not sure I'd row my ass out there in the first place :P

Dang, man, moving water effects--so difficult! You did really well (better than I can do) but it still seems a little too rectangular. Won't keep me from reviewing this shot the next time I try building water, though.

You're right. It's decidedly dry. Teenagers cannot relate to it's complexities and I don't know why they make high schoolers read it.

DW Studios - MI As someone who read it in 10th grade and really enjoyed it, I disagree. I found it neither dry, nor its complexities un-relatable. However, I may easily be the exception.

    Awesome vignette.

You may well be. I know that my classmates really didn't get it at all. And while I understood it better than they did, it was some years later when I could truly appreciate the book due to my own life experiences.

i've read a bunch of Hemmingway and not enjoyed most of it... with the possible exception of The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber. i have not read the old man and the sea but based upon this Moc i would rather read Nannan's version. :D
