The Phantom Cart

This is an imitation of a painting by Salvador Dali. In the painting, Dali achieves a double image, meaning that the same object can be seen to represent another entirely different object. Upon first glace, one sees a cart traveling towards a distant town driven by a man and horse. However, when we associate the shape of the driver with the buildings and that of the horse with the rubble on the road, we see that both the driver and horse have vanished into the background. By creating this illusion, Dali portrays the tendency of the irrational paranoic mind to read hidden meanings and discredit reality.
