Sunset at Mission San Miguel
Once a symbol of the New World, now a monument to a forgotten creed.
This is a fictional Spanish mission that’s gone through major changes in the evolution of the build. It started with the purple baseplate along with my intention to build an alien spire amidst a field of white flowers. After the baseplate was finished, I couldn’t come up with a suitable design for the alien structure so I changed my mind to build a small futuristic church set on an alien planet. This also didn’t work out as I couldn’t find a proper scale given the constraints of the baseplate, so I decided to build a retro-futuristic Spanish mission with the back being phased out as if it were in the process of being camouflaged or teleported. Ultimately the mission ended up having a traditional look, so I decided to change the phasing-out effect into ruins. At my LUG meeting a few members mentioned that the purple landscape looks that way during a sunset, which was a great idea that tied the off-colored landscape with the main feature.
For the photography I tried using a large colored paper backdrop. It’s about $25 in store and $35 online and you can purchase it from various locations including Amazon and it makes photo editing a cinch.
