Oh You Show Off!!!

I know that at one time or another, I have said every bird I've seen is one of my Favorites ---- who says you can't have 82 favorites, right?

So here we go again, the Male Purple Finches are definitely one of my favorite birds -- not only for their lovely bright Raspberry coloring most of the year, but their personalities, also. Unlike their Female counterparts, the guys never squabble or make a fuss with each other or other birds. In fact the only time they may seen to be showing even the slightest emotion is if they raise their head crests (kind of like someone raising their eyebrows??) which is not so often, but a singular characteristic of the Purples.

I've not had much luck catching that perfect pose with the crest extended (head feathers are so thin that they look almost fake with light shining through), but here is a collection of portraits I've taken over this last Spring and Summer that show some "hair-raising" activity and more that show the boys just "hanging out" and being nothing but handsome and adorable.
