RMNP Silhouette Sunrise
Have you ever tried to be in 2 places at once? I woke up at 4 am on Sat. morning and decided, yeah, why not go hike for sunrise at Rocky Mountain N.P. So I jumped out of bed and made it out of the house by 4:40. Went screaming up to Estes and to the Bear Lake parking lot by 6 am. OK, I can do this, throw on hiking boots and backpack, and hike 1.2 miles, 500 vertical, in twenty-five min for sunrise at Dream Lake. I'm within about 5 min of the lake and I see alpenglow on Long's Peak, quick, run, don't hike. I turn around at an overlook and there is the sun peaking through the fog, should I stay or should I go? Sunrise or Alpenglow? I opted for 2 shots (handheld) and then went running up the trail to Dream Lake. It's a train wreak, I pull everything out of the backpack and set the camera on the tripod and fire away. The guys next to me I'm sure had a good laugh. I missed pink, but did capture some orange glow, no clouds, so not a really a "wow" shot.
After getting the film back, I really like my 2 sunrise shots, better than the Dream Lake ones. But, bottom line, if I had gotten up earlier, I would have not stopped on the trail for sunrise and might have had something better at the lake.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by, and taking a look at Saturday's sunrise, have a great weekend everyone.
