New Bedford, Massachusetts

U.S. Custom House (1836)

During the first half of the 19th Century, New Bedford was the whaling capital of the world. More whaling ships left from here than all other world ports combined. Many of the buildings from that era survive today, and are part of New Bedford Whaling National Historic Park.
