Charles W. Morgan Restoration

Charlestown Naval Shipyard, Boston, MA. That Staff at Mystic Seaport Museum were contacted about the discovery of shipbuilding wood unearthed during excavation at a construction site, adjacent to the famed warship, USS Constitution. Employees from Mystic Seaport traveled from the Mystic River in Connecticut north to the Mystic River in Boston to view the wood and pick out pieces that will be used in the Morgan’s restoration. Here Quentin Snediker and Trevor Allen watch as pieces they have selected are loaded into a truck destined for Connecticut. Because the wood has been encased in mud for decades it has already attained the scent of a ship’s bilges.
