After FWC performs a rescue, it is sometimes hard to obtain updates on the animal that has been rescued because it is released to specialized facilities for hopeful rehabilitation. This ran on Bay News 9 a few weeks ago: A sad day at Lowry Park Zoo. A rescued #Florida panther kitten has passed away:

      TAMPA --
An injured Florida panther kitten rescued in April has died.

The kitten was rescued in south Florida and brought to the Lowry Park Zoo with hopes of being rehabilitated.

"Despite extraordinary efforts by more than a dozen veterinary specialists and wildlife experts, the injured ... kitten ... died under anesthesia just prior to a MRI scan to look at his brain for abnormalities such as inflammation, infection or defects," Lowry Park Zoo officials announced Thursday.

"Resuscitation efforts were attempted, but were unsuccessful," officials added.

The kitten suffered from blindness and had other symptoms of brain disease.
