Tessellated Darter Research in Ocklawaha River Basin
Biologists are working to better describe the southern tessellated darter’s distribution, occurrence and abundance in the Ocklawaha River Basin in north-central Florida. They also hope to identify and describe its habitat, and analyze genetic differences between Florida populations and those in other states. This cooperative study between the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, U.S. Geological Survey and University of Florida will increase our knowledge of the southern tessellated darter’s Florida population and aid conservation of this Species of Special Concern.
