Mushroom Rocks at Lee's Ferry I

Enormous boulders have cracked off from the hard top layer of the butte above this area and rolled down to rest here. Over hundreds of years, the softer layer below has eroded quickly, leaving little support for the protective harder boulder above. In time, it will topple and roll a little downhill to then start the process again.
