"Suite Française" - Irène Némirovsky
I've always been enthralled with France during WWII and couldn't wait to get my hands on this book when it was finally translated in 2006. Irène Némirovsky was working on the manuscript as the events she was writing about were unfolding. Though it's a work of fiction, she captured the feelings and trials of France during the exodus in 1940 and the German occupation. The book has a fascinating history itself - it was never finished. Irène was sent to Auschwitz and died there in 1942.
