Cardiff landscape, 1678 - digitally stitched together

This is one of the earliest images of Wales drawn 'on the spot' that the Museum has in its collections. Sketched by Francis Place in 1678 as two separate views of Cardiff, Amgueddfa Cymru has digitally scanned and stitched the two together to reveal for the first time this unique view of the city.

See the museums website for a close up and interactive view of this sketch complete with explanation of the city's famous landmarks

Dyma un o’r delweddau cynharaf o Gymru... i gael ei darlunio ‘yn y fan a’r lle’. Cafodd ei braslunio gan Francis Place ym 1678 fel dwy olygfa wahanol, ac mae Amgueddfa Cymru wedi sganio’r ddau fraslun yn ddigidol a’u glynu at ei gilydd fel y gallwn weld am y tro cyntaf yr olygfa unigryw hon o Caerdydd fel ag yr oedd ym 1678.
