Angel in Ypsi
Quite a different senior portrait for a truly unique young lady. My environmental portrait class was shooting at a historic mansion in Ypsilanti (The Hutchinson House) and she generously accepted my invitation to model. Thank you!!!
This type of portrait lighting is called "Butterfly" because the shadow under her nose looks like butterfly wings. Her face is truly perfect for this dramatic approach.
Technical details: I lit her with a strobe modified by a honeycomb grid and a CTO filter (amber). I set the camera to tungsten white balance, which neutralized her skin tone, and made the sky appear blue. (I also underexposed the sky to make it a deeper, darker blue -- it was actually daytime outside.)
In Photoshop, using curves, I boosted color and contrast.
