Hypersaturated Moon

Inspired by this blog post of Terry's, I wanted to try something similar. I shot the moon, then simply tried upping the sat to the max. That ended up looking crappy and pixelated (possibly because I was only shooting at an effective 600mm and I just didn't have sufficient detail to do that.) My solution was to create an opaque layer of the hypersaturated moon, apply a moderately heavy gaussian blur, and overlay it on top of the unmodified image.

One interesting bit for me is that the colors in my moon looked very different than the colors in the picture I'm modelling after. Perhaps it's just a white balance issue. I guess I could make use some of the big yellow swaths as the white point. Alternatively, I could just stand by my moon being a more accurate reflection of the moon's cheesy nature :)
