I had another early morning yesterday, leaving the house at 5 AM in order to try to be down in Laguna Beach in time for the sunrise. I had discovered both Fisherman's Cove and Shaw's Cove a couple of weeks ago but was foiled by low clouds that were hanging just along the coast as I arrived. I can't begin to tell you how disappointing it is to get up at 4:45 AM thinking that the coast is literally clear with a decent sky just to arrive and find everything covered in fog literally yards from the beach.
In this case, though, we had one of our first truly clear mornings of the Summer. I had only recently begun to explore the Laguna Coastline North of Heisler Park and was very pleased to find Fisherman's Cove as there are several amazing tide pools scattered along the beach. Just a few hours before, this area of the beach had been under 6-8 feet of water, but if you hit the beach with the tide out, Fisherman's Cove can offer some amazing views of the sunrise. By 7 AM, the sun had gone behind the clouds yet again, and it was time to head home.
