Setting Sail for Avalon
I set off earlier tonight in hopes of catching an incredible sunset down in Laguna as high clouds had been floating around for most of the day. But when I finally arrived at around 4:30 PM, the only clouds left were parked behind Catalina Island. So rather than shoot from my typical spot down on Victoria Beach, I headed up the hill to the highest point that I could find, which turned out to be in the Aliso and Wood Canyons Regional Park. While I was shooting like mad and watching the sun fall into the ocean, I noticed a single sail boat which looked as if it had just set off for the port of Avalon on Catalina. As I had left just about everything that I SHOULD have brought with me back in the car or at home (my tripod and my 70-200 2.8...DOH! ) I shot instead with my 18-200 VR, but still managed to catch this sailboat in my frame. There was just something that grabbed me about the size of that boat in the expanse of the Pacific Ocean...literally in a sea of Orange.
