Earthquake 4

Today, 12 May 2008, an earthquake measuring 7.8 hit Sichuan province in China. We could feel the earthquake in Nanning (several hundred miles away) which caused our apartment to shake for 30 seconds. It was also felt in Beijing, Taipei, Hanoi and Bangkok. Here in Nanning, people paniced and rushed down the stairs to escape the building. It occurred around 2:30pm when many local people are taking an afternoon sleep. So many people were outside in their pajamas including one man who only had his underpants on.

Latest reports are that 7,600 people died in one county alone and it appears likely the death toll will rise.
