Suggestion Box (6/365)

At our old school we weren't "allowed" to have a suggestion box, but at my new school I walked in the teacher's lounge and saw this sitting there! Wow! I was excited!

As a concerned parent with a child who has autism, I say it is time for change to take place starting with addressing the use of abusive practices of restraint and seclusion in our school system. My child was almost warehoused in a behavioral facility by the tps school system last year. I have the paperwork stating that they do use seclusion and tasering at Robinsons annex facility . If I would have decided to place my child there..I would have been stripped of my parental rights to my child upon signing the papers.

If our children are considered a danger to others or to their self then why not offer the parent and disabled student the option of the safety of being provided homebased services at home? we do not send our children to school to be abused and uneducated..we send our children to school with the same hopes and dreams that any parent has when sending their child to school to be nurtured and educated. but the district of Toledo has let my child down..and I know am finding out many others..they called the police on my nine year old son with autism when they had denied him of food and drink..which they said was part of their behavior plan ..my son was denied a fba when I had requested it back in march of 2011 ..they failed my son..I am so concerned over his safety that I enrolled my son in an online program..these abusive practices must be banned from being used in public schools or in any school or facility..teachers are not trained in postive behavioral support training..but in CPI training..there is a difference between the two..but ask any teacher here they can not tell me the difference..even thinking about moving out of state..that is how bad I see things are here..things need to change...
