Oceanspray in the hills

Oceanspray - Holodiscus discolor - is known for the strength and hardness of its wood. Before the use of nails, coastal First Nations in the Pacific Northwest used Oceanspray pegs in construction -- that's how hard the wood is (especially when heated).
