Snoot Youth Hostel... March 1989 Scotland

Newer Older

Snoot youth hostel (now sadly closed) in the lovely Scottish Borders where we stayed on our epic 9 day Lands End to John o Groats cycle ride. Lyme R.C. and C.T.C. friend Cyril Jones's bike in the foreground while two orange clad friends walk the frosty field to the hostel.... a one time church tucked away in the quiet hills ...off the A7 in Teviotdale near Hawick.

Really beautiful. Cycling and Scotland - my two favorite things (that aren't beverages or family).

Great lighting effects, an outstanding shot of an already splendid scene. It is a pity that this facility closed.

great framing and light, the smoke from the chimney makes the hotel look very inviting.

A superbly composed photo of a magical place. I visited in Spring, when the colours were vivid. This wintry shot seems of a different world.

This is a modern version of a Frank Patterson pen & ink artwork (In fact it would be interesting to see this rendered as a drawing).

Idyllic, a perfect example of the pleasures of British cycling.

    Superb!

PS Is this a scan of a print?

26 years earlier (1963) that could have been my bike leaning by the fence there! A Raleigh Lenton sports bike, bought 1958, sold 2004 after at least 30,000 miles. The Snoot was fun: sleep in the pews, wash where the altar was, and cook in the vestry!

I was there today 5th August 2013 with Keith Anderson. Dad used to cycle her I the late 30's and early 40th. Loved it. Sadly he passed away age 92 on 4 July this year but always talked about his days at the Snoot and Nellie telling the lads to "mind and pump the water" Barbara Edgar, Musselbugh
