Railway Express Agency at Buffalo Central Terminal (Flickr Explore #209)

The long foreground building stretching into the distance is the former Railway Express Agency facility, a national monopoly set up by the United States federal government in 1917. The government was concerned about rapid and safe movement of parcels, money, and goods during World War I so they created the Railway Express Agency. The service was shut down in 1975 when its business model ceased to be viable.
