Salto del Gitano - Parque Nacional de Monfragüe - Spain

The Salto del Gitano ("jump of the gipsy") is a geological formation where one of the several quartzititic ridges we find at Parque Nacional de Monfragüe (Extremadura, Spain) meets the Tagus river creating a very steep rocky slope used by many birds of prey and other rare species for breeding.

Here's where a big colony of Griffon vultures (80 couples) nidify as well as three pairs of Black storks and one each of Peregrine falcon, Golden eagle, Egyptian vulture and Eagle owl.

The Parque Nacional de Monfrague is a very nice place visited by many and an example of balanced sustainable eco-tourism, promoting the maintenance of high-value ecossystems so threatened in Europe and a source of biodiversity for the entire Iberian Península in the restoration of the once diverse landscapes, before all the destruction which is still going on.
