Tracy Arm Glacier

    Newer Older

The cruise ship "Dawn Princess" departing Sawyer Glacier as our ship moves in closer. One of the highlights of my trip. To give you some sense of scale this is stats on the ship:
    # 1,950 passengers
    # 10 decks
    # 261.3 meters in length
    # 77,499 gross tonnes

tt almost looks like a toy sitting in that fjord. The location I placed it on the map is an estimate, since I am not finding the exact spot on the flickr map. Judging from other photos I have been looking at taken by other people, I think we must have been about 2-3 miles from the glacier.

linthesky (?details=1 ... can we have it both ways, and 98 other people added this photo to their favorites.

Wow! That's a wonderful shot! My wife and I cruised to Alaska aboard the Dawn Princess about a year and a half ago. We didn't make it all the way to the glacier (too much ice), but Tracy Arm Fjord is one of the most beautiful places I've seen.

kevinrushforth Well, you now have a shot of your ship in Tracy Arm. Now I need to find a shot of the Pacific Princess there, that was the ship I was on, it was much, much smaller.

I think there is no argument from anyone that Tracy Arm is one of the most beautiful places on earth. It all seems like a dream to me now. It was so early in the morning, I was dragged out of bed, and while half frozen found myself staring into this magical wonder world. I found it hard to operate the camera, it was just so overwhelming to me.

I was on the Dawn Princes when it went up Tracys Arm. This was on the 22 of July and we went to the other glacier in that fjord as well. Awsome sight over all. The ice burgs were great.

Nice photograph. You have it geotagged in Port Snettisham not Tracy Arm. Tracy Arm is the next fjord south.

Umnak Thanks, I just had to sort of guess on the map where it was as not much was marked and all the fjords looked the same. I
