Die Essener Lichtburg
The legendary Lichtburg, located at the heart of the city of Essen, was and is Germany's largest film palace with 1,250 seats. When the cinema was opened in 1928, it was already regarded as the most modern film theatre in Germany. In 1943, the much-praised auditorium was totally gutted by fire. The reconstruction in the style of the 50s made the Lichtburg one of the most elegant film theatres in the country. The Lichtburg is more than a film palace: Hundreds of premieres, film galas as well as national and global premieres have taken place there over decades.
