Massonia wittebergensis

Update: It's blooming! We grew this from seed.

Absolutely adorable miniature bulb endemic to high altitude localities in the southern Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa (e.g. Naude's Nek). The SF Bay climate is close enough to alpine conditions allowing us to grow this treasure outdoors. It is a summer grower and dormant in the winter.

For more information and to see some titillating habitat shots, see this Pacific Bulb Society wiki entry.
