Anne of Green Gables 100 Celebration Red Balloon Book Shop May, July 2008
The Red Balloon Bookshop www.redballoonbookshop.com, in collaboration with the L. M. Montgomery Literary Society, hosted A Tea Party to Celebrate 100 Years of Anne of Green Gables.

The event was held on July 24, 2008 at the historic University Club of Saint Paul on Summit Avenue. A hundred guests attended and viewed the three rooms of 17 + tables of L.M. Montgomery Literary Society exhibits about the author of Anne of Green Gables as well as displays of collectible Anne dolls, books about Montgomery, early edition books, several editions of the new Anne prequel book, and many artifacts related to Anne, Prince Edward Island, and the author.

Children acquired freckles, had their photos taken, and visited the activity table, "Avonlea School." After the luncheon, the guests sang Montgomery's Island Hymn and the title song from the 1919 silent film, Anne of Green Gables. Then, the 43 children paraded to the front to sit down and listen to story teller, Pati Kachel, read the book, Lucy Maud Montgomery by Elizabeth Macleod. A drawing was held and many children received gifts from generous publishers, book stores, and the Literary Society (Christy!).

Our thanks to Sally Rigler and Christy Woster for their superb organizing skills.

Please enjoy the photos of this splendid event .

The Red Balloon hosted a wonderful 100th Birthday Party for Anne of Green Gables on May 31, 2008 at their store on Grand Avenue in St. Paul.

Christy Woster and Penny Shreck brought lots of display materials, crafting supplies, and scrapbooks along with door-prizes to give out. Pati Kachel entertained the capacity crowd with stories about LMM and Anne (from Elizabeth McLeod's new children's biography on LMM and Dierdre Kessler's new Anne of Green Gables for young readers). Carolyn and Christina signed copies of the new Anne of Green Gables Treasury - Special Commemorative Edition. Ann Johnson drove in from Hastings to help.

To top everything off, the Red Balloon served a huge Anne birthday cake, decorated beautifully with a picture of the original AGG cover.
