Township of Ocean's 170th Anniversary Presentation

Clerk Hanlon made a special presentation to the Ocean Township Mayor and Council with a reproduction of the first map of the Township of Ocean to commemorate the Township’s 170th Anniversary at the Township Council meeting last evening. She was joined by Sheriff Shaun Golden and Freeholder Director Tom Arnone. The hand drawn map was filed with the Monmouth County Clerk 170 years to the day, on February 21, 1849, on the date that the Township of Ocean was created via an act of the New Jersey State Legislature. The map depicts Ocean Township’s original footprint which encompassed all lands from Sea Bright south to the Shark River and west to encompass Eatontown and Neptune.

Thank you to the County Clerk’s Office Map Room Supervisor Jane Colyer for discovering this treasure, Mary Hussey of the County Clerk’s Archives Division for digitization, and to Aaron Townsend of the Monmouth County Public Information Department for creating the beautiful reproduction - February 21, 2019.
