Once In a Blue Moon

    Newer Older

I woke up at 4 AM last night and my cat, Tigr noticed. That means she will want to lie on me and get attention. She's very sweet and pretty old, so she gets whatever she wants.

She ended up sleeping alongside me for a while, very cute and sweet. I finally got up to give her some treats so that she would be satisfied and let me sleep when I saw the most amazing moon outside.

I watched the moon for a while before deciding to try to take some photos without using my tripod or going onto the terrace. I wasn't dressed at the time and I wasn't going to get dressed for this. I wanted to go back to sleep.

This was shot using a monopod and my steadiest camera holding technique. The exposure was 1/3 of a second. I think it's not bad considering.

Of note, this is a "blue moon." The second full moon in a month is called a "blue moon." This was August's second full moon and it was gorgeous. This photo only hints at its beauty.

That's the Manhattan skyline in the background with Astoria, NY in the foreground.

It wasn't easy because I did not want to get dressed, use a tripod, or go out on the terrace. That's very limiting, but it was 5 AM and I wanted to sleep. It would have been sharper had I set up and used a tripod, but then I would have had to dress and go onto the terrace. It would have taken longer and I would never have been able to go back to sleep. I wonder how much sharper it would have been, though. The air was a bit hazy, not great for sharpness.

      Thank you!!

I'm not usually out of bed at 5 AM, but the moon was beautiful. The photo doesn't really capture how striking it looked.
