I Am Not A Terrorist

Not A Crime : Police in the UK and abroad routinely invoke bogus anti-terror legislation to prevent photographers from carrying out their work, and photojournalists are constantly filmed at gatherings and their details kept on an ever-growing database.

The British Journal of Photography is beginning a campaign for photographers' rights, and we need your help.

There is no point petitioning governments, because they're not listening, and the problem is generally that laws are being misused, rather than drafted, to harass photographers. We need to raise awareness, so we have decided to launch a visual campaign.

Over the next year, we hope to gather thousands of self-portraits of photographers - professional and amateur - from around the world, each holding up a white card with the words: 'Not a crime' or 'I am not a terrorist.'

I should get it made up as a t-shirt if I were you! Should put everyone's mind at rest.

I remember the same slogan for bikers in years past ,weve been discriminated against for years, so nothing new to me! i hate this type of treatment with a passion so I shall now go about sourcing a suitable image!

It's the "tourists" that are "terrorists". Why? Cus they sound alike in pronunciation (in the deep Southern USA dialects). And they have cameras. So there. Factual findings, lol.

America has similiar abuses. Corporations wielding the 9/11 attacks as a champion shield against photographing their tall buildings. My own rant/rave censorship story below (click pic) ~

      Verboten! Censored!!

      Nice one Alex!

Plenty of photographer T-shirts available here: www.zazzle.co.uk/photographer+tshirts

You can even make your own design if you want, maybe with a special message for the Kent police. LOL

      In the Register again!

It's a good article - the Reg has been documenting the police's ignorance of the law and abuse of law in cases like this for a while now.

I dunno. I used to trust and respect the police.

Cool. I'm also becoming a bit perturbed by the whole thing, it's all a bit totalitarian for my tastes

(nice camera too, I love OMs)

Regarding the t-shirts link someone posted above, I'm not convinced that wearing a shirt saying "I am not a terrorist" is going to do you any favours with the rozzers if they were to stop you

Hi everyone. Sorry about my slackness in responding to comments (here and just about everywhere else). Nice to get them all the same.

Regarding the issue the photo is about. We're up against a government that does not listen and only cares about big business and a police force that's forgotten it's a public service.

Join the group and post a picture if nothing else.

and @ fairychav - it's back to basics for me :)
