    I think they're called Japanese medlar in English, or a type of loquat.

      Medlar is correct, also known as nespole in Italian ;)

      Good to know, my friend! I also hear they're called nispero in Spanish. Now if only I could find them in Seattle. Grrr.

      In California most people call them loquats. I'll see if I can track some down.
