A flash of orange
Yesterday evening I popped out to look for flutterbys, and there were lots of these little critters around - small heaths.
Also saw a few small coppers (keep an eye out for a post soon if you're interested ;), but no sign of any blues, and barely any meadow browns.
The small heath is tiny (wingspan 3 cm) and also rather hairy - hopefully enough to keep them warm in the poor weather which is forecast for the rest of this week. To get shots of them I invariably ended up laying down on the ground and sneaking up on them slowly in a kind of commando crawl!
