Lake Michigan Fury

Saint Joseph, Michigan

September 3, 2010

Lake Michigan

Video -

The wind was coming straight from the west at 36mph. The waves were 8-14 feet and hit the piers head-on and cause giant explosions of water. I stopped on the south pier four blue poles from the end. My entire body was soaked along with a 40D, 20D, 17-40 f/4L and 70-200 f/2.8L. As I started to head back to the shore, three Saint Joseph cop cars appeared with their lights on. The pier was closed after talking with them.

I was unable to capture the largest waves hitting the piers since I was trying to protect the lense glass from getting wet. I had nothing dry on me to wipe them! Some of the waves were creating walls of water that were probably 60+ feet tall after hitting the pier. It was SWEET!

I saw no one else out there beyond the handrailings, so these should be rare angles of the action.
