The Campanile, U.C Berkeley
Sather Tower is the famous and photogenic clock and bell tower on the University of California, Berkeley campus. It was completed in 1914 and stands 307 feet high. There are 61 bells in the tower, which serenade Berkeley students and local residents with fabulous music three times a day for 10-15 minutes. The observation deck is 200 feet above ground.
The smallest of the 61 bells weighs 19 lbs., the largest, 10,500 lbs. The largest bell, which tolls on the hour every day between 8 AM and 10 PM, can be heard at my house which is about 2 miles away. In this photo, a few of the bells can be seen, lit by the late afternoon sun.
