A photo of our home composting bin. I built this last fall out of mostly scrap materials we had in our garage. The side panels are roughly 36" X 36". California composting can be difficult because it is so dry here...but the rains of late have been helpful in getting this compost to "kick" and it is finally getting hot.
- Compost poker helps provide air to the compost. I poke the compost and stir it up every few days or so.
- Side panels are roughly 36" X 36" and are constructed of scrap material we had laying around our house...we did have to purchase a roll of wire mesh to cover 2 of the sides.
- Wire holds the sides of the bin together. This allows me to take the bin apart and further stir the compost with a pitchfork. This is something I might do every 3-4 months or so.
